    A learning organization

We live in the era where technology is progressing quickly - we can see changes on a daily basis. In order to advance, it is important to keep up with all the updates. As a learning organization, we strive towards motivating our colleagues to invest in their personal development.

A mini-conference: A great idea to share some knowledge

Front-end day conference was organized for our colleagues and all the speakers were Vega IT’s front-end stars. Our initial idea was to present CSS Grid and all its features, but then, we thought it might be a good idea to check with the front-end team if anyone is interested in giving lectures. We were amazed when we received four applications. However, splitting one topic into four speakers was not an easy task. After some thinking, we decided to organize a mini- conference.

Our colleagues were covering interesting front-end topics such as CSS Grid, SVG and CSS level 4 selectors.

    A short recap

Martina and Srđan talked about CSS Grid and all its magic.

    Our colleague Srđan

We learned about all the properties that allow us to quickly create two-dimensional and flexible layouts. Martina talked us through all the theoretical details about grid and we had a live coding session with Srđan, where we could see the grid in action.

Having in mind that the browser support is pretty good (with the exception of IE), we are sure that all the things we learned in this talk will come in handy in our next project. SVG has been present for a long time, but some things are still a mystery to us. Dejan was kind enough to reveal all the SVG secrets through numerous interesting examples. I must say that we are lucky to have an in-house SVG expert, such as Dejan, who is a “go to” person whenever there is an SVG emergency.

Over the years CSS selectors have progressed extensively.

Finally, Izabela showed us how we can target all the specific parts of the page by using CSS level 4 selectors.

This mini-conference reminded us why we love front-end. It was just one example of so many interesting and educational knowledge-sharing events we frequently organize. We will undoubtedly continue to expand our horizons by inviting our colleagues to participate in events alike with the ultimate aim not only to empower our team but also allow them to develop both professionally and personally. We consider this as one of the top priorities of our culture.

The entire conference was not only a great opportunity to share some knowledge with our colleagues, but also a chance for us to gather and pick up ideas from each other. All in all, it was insightful, enjoyable and thought-provoking.
